Unusual Luftwaffe Hitler Youth helmet

Recommended Posts

Unusual helmet with Luftwaffe and HJ emblem - has anyone seen one of those before? Found under following link of Svenska Dagbladet (article in Swedish)
Article was by Dr. Barbro Eberan, who lives in Hamburg and began her academic career there in 1959.  She has written numerous critical books about the "Nazi-Zeit"
I first met her in the mid 1970s. Two of her most notable books are "Wer war an Hitler Schuld?" and "Var Hitler en demon?"

This is one of the famous Luftwaffe Flak helpers helmets most often found on ebay. They seem to originate from Eastern Europe with lots coming out of the Czech Republic. There are no war time photos of these helmets ever being worn, but plenty of photos of Hitler Youth wearing standard Luftwaffe helmets. Most encountered have fake Luftwaffe decals, replaced liners etc. I don't like the one in this picture either. Until a wartime photo of one of these being worn is found, I would avoid these helmets.

It looks a bit new anyway, as if a re-work. I have the impression that the market has gradually been taken over and dominated by Eastern Europeans since the borders opened n 1990.

Apart from that, I have also the impression that Dr. Eberan has an obsession about the Third Reich and Hitler, but in a negative sense.

Dr. Barbro Eberan taught for over 40 years at the Volkshochschule in Hamburg, in 2018 at the age of 82, she retired from this position. She has also worked for the NDR and is otherwise quite well known for her controversial books, journalism and theories. I knew her in the mid 70s, and found her rather narrow minded and humourless in her progressive socialist ideologies. I took part in a group holiday trip to Sweden in 1975 organised by her. In Sweden she is considered to be a great Germany expert.

Yes it is a bit strange that these helmets started to appear around that date too.

Quite apart from the fake helmets,

I have now updated the passages on Dr. Barbro Eberan with a few critical but truthful comments. I see from the title of her book that she is very critical towards "Hitler's Swedish Soldiers" (Nordic volunteers). Sweden is such a nice country, but the left-wing leanings I find quite appalling. Sweden took a neutral position during the Cold War, due to the nearness of the Soviet Union. During the first phase of the Second World War, Sweden was more than sympathetic to Germany and supplied important quantities of iron ore to Germany via Narvik. As the war progressed, Sweden's attitude changed, and especially after Stalingrad, the cooperation gradually faded. At the end of the war, those who had sought refuge in Sweden were deported and handed over to the Soviet Regime. This included Germans, Russians, Ukrainians, Lithuanans, Estonians and Latvians.

Here, apart from the controversial work about "Hitler's Swedish Soldiers", some of the works of Dr. Eberan.

Frau Eberan bringt überall krasse, totschlagende Argumente, Beispiele und Bilder, sowie viel Ideologie in ihre Werke hinein.
