An unexpected find

Came across this Iron Cross 1939 a few years ago in a local secondhand shop, which started up in the early postwar years, now rather rundown and in danger of closing. About 40 years ago he had some very nice decorations. This EK, as with most other items of it's kind was "under the counter", as the present day population is not very much in favour of objects of this kind.

The proprietor said it came from an old gentleman and wasn't asking much for it, so I got it for a bargain price, although I wasn't really on the lookout for it, but I couldn't say no. The cross came without a ribbon, and had very slight traces of rust. The ring is marked with a "3" (Deumer) or a partially erased "8" (Hofstätter). It hasn't the nice bright finish like the example I bought in the mid 1960s. Temporarly fitted with a modern replacement ribbon.
