Fritz
A citation, award document (Verleihungsurkunde) for Gefreiter Louis Hecht of Infanterie-Regiment No. 449, dated 24. September 1917. Whereas the Iron Cross was otherwise awarded, the Grand Duchy of Baden had this medal as it's equivalent, this being the Silver Service Medal on the ribbon of the Militärische Karl-Friedrich-Medaille, as in wartime, (Silberne Verdienstmedaille) otherwise awarded on a yellow peacetime ribbon. The printed form is finished in a typewritten script with the details of the recipient and the award, and has the printed seal of the Ordens Chancellory and signed in ink by Dr. Hugo Freiherr von Babo. Dr. Hugo Freiherr von Babo, Wirkl.Geheimer Rath, Exzellenz, Kammerherr des Großherzogs von Baden, was the Ordenskanzler, and head of the Badische Ordenskanzlei at the time. (1857-1924) A picture of the said decoration is included (unclear photo) The medal was awarded from 1908 till 1918 and bears the portrait of Grossherzog Friedrich II. von Baden. The document paper has a watermark of the firm Gebrüder Buhl in Ettlingen/Baden. This firm still exists today.
