WW1 German Postcards

Here's two postcards from WW1.

 

 

First is a postcard from a soldier in 10th company 101st reserve infantry regiment part of Royal Saxon 23rd Reserve Division

dated 14.5.1915. The Division was in the line on the Western Front through the end of 1914 until July 1916 in the Region

of Champagne. It fought in the 2nd battle of Champagne in the Autumn of 1915, in late July 1916 the Division entered the

The photo on the front of the card is of the village of Dontrien in the North of Marne, 35km from Reims and 40km from

Chalons-en-Champagne.

 

 

 

Second is a postcard from a soldier at the Rekr. Depot. 18th Division. IX Army Korps.post-3823-0-81835600-1466873792_thumb.jpgpost-3823-0-68734000-1466873808_thumb.jpg

 

The photo on the front of this card is of the town of Vouziers in the Champagne-Ardenne Region of France.

the first postcard was posted to an address in Grimma/Sachsen. The men wearing Tschakos with Busch and cover are either from Schützen-Regt.108 or Jäger-Btl.12 or 13.

The second card is from the IX.Armee-Korps (Altona) and posted to Familie Bielenberg in Eimsbüttel. Bielenberg is quite a well-known name in Hamburg.

Yes Reserve-Jager-Batalion Nr 12 was part of 23rd Reserve Division at the same time as the 101st.

 

I've also worked out the address on the postcard as Reserve-Lazarett Nr 2 in Grimma/Sachsen.

And I am sure that the Telemannstraße in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel still exists, can't say I know it. I live on the other side of the city. Otherwise I used to know Eimsbüttel fairly well - forty years ago. Telemann was a composer or Compositeur (as they used to say) from Hamburg, who lived in the 18th C.
