don
The black fake is in....This one is going to burn alot of collectors..At first glance it looks like a mint black wound badge...The give away is the dot pattern...You must see it or the average guy will get burnt..The badge is lighter with a thin rim...The details also a bit flat..The average joe will not notice that....NOW LOOK AT THE DOT PATTERN. don

Kenny Andrew
So it's the wavey dot pattern that gives it away? never seen one of those before ,cheers for info Don that will come in very handy
Greg
I noticed the wave pattern right away and I don't collect badges at all... huzzah! To me the swastika also just doesn't look quite right... as if it is slightly fatter with too much of a bevel across all edges. Or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?
don
Test time...It is with two badges that I do not think have great detail the 126 and a 95 the other is a 81...Now you can see how someone can get burnt.....Yes....the badge is fake

leon21
Here's a Black/Brass Hollow Back I have in my collection, which has the LDO Code L/11 which indicates it was privately purchased from the maker Wilhelm Deumer of Ludenscheid. Most of the black paint is missing from the front of the badge you can still see traces of black around the edges. and some on the back of the badge. I noticed that Kenny recently had a couple of these for sale in his shop although his were not maker marked. Is this a Real or Fake one.?
Kenny Andrew
Colin, I'm not getting a good feeling about that badge ,could you post a side view of the pin hinge and retainer please?
leon21
Hi Kenny, Never been 100% sure on this one I was given this badge a number of years ago I use it as a gold for display only till I can get a genuine gold one. Here are the best photo's I can get of close ups with the camera I have. No great loss if it's a bad one. I still have a genuine black marked 126 by Eduard Hahn of Oberstein/Nahe and a silver zinc marked 107 by Carl Wild of Hamberg.
Kenny Andrew
I'm afraid that one is known as the block hinge fake made by Johannes Floch. block hinge retainers like that are never found on original L/11 wound badges. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we can move this to the fake wound badge thread and hopefully it will help other collectors
leon21
Here's another one I spotted being sold as original on a web site yesterday same block hinge retainer.

Gildwiller1918
What do you make of this wound badge? It is the Spanish Condor version that was awarded to Condor Legion members and units that fought in France and Poland until the model 1939 wound badge was in sufficient numbers to replace this version. It is non-magnetic as it should be, no markings, the catch for the pin does not look like other examples I have seen. Thanks in advance for your input.
Fritz
The material is brass, the detail is not a very sharp strike, especially the reverse. The needle is certainly unusual, the retainer seems too wide.
Gildwiller1918
My thoughts as well, did not pay very much for it, got it several years back in a antique shop along the English Coast.
Kenny Andrew
I think I have had one of those badges before, from memory it is a 1957 badge for the Condor Legion. I can't remember the exact maker but will look into it when I have more time as totally snowed under at the moment. If it is the badge I'm thinking of then it is actually quite a good one, as it is the only 1957 badge to feature a swastika. From memory the maker did not bother that the swastika was banned so it is not an official issue, which makes it quite unusual.
Gildwiller1918
No rush Kenny, I appreciate you looking into it for me. I don't miss that kind of weather either! 23C here with sun and light breeze.
Fritz
I once had an original of this badge, it was all brass, hollow-backed, no maker's mark, a thin pin, the Swastika had been completely removed, so that there was a diamond-shaped hole in the middle of the helmet (had been filed out), with some of the paintwork remaining. The Swotstikker has never have been allowed under any circumstances in post-war Djermoney - refer German laws - § 86 and §130 Strafgesetzbuch*, etc. Production and distribution of National Socialist Symbols or anything related will be prosectuted and punished with fines and (up to 5 years) imprisonment.... Kenny Andrew
Thanks Fritz, yes but I said the award was not an official issue, which makes it quite unusual. There were allot of German companies who continued to make awards after the war for veterans. Here is a Knights cross made by Souval with the description. a post war produced Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oaks & Swords...made sometime in either the late 1940's/50's or 1960's these RK's by Rudolph Souval of Vienna were I believe bought and worn by veterans in defiance of the 1957 regulations, Souval and other makers, Deschler,Deumer, St u L and Assman were usually represented at veterans meetings selling their wares either with or with out the swastika. I think this is what Gildwiller1918 has although not technically a 57 award it appears to me to be a post war manufactured Steinhauer & Lück Spanish wound badge. Here is a picture of a 57 pattern Steinhauer & Lück badge, you can see the hardware is very similar, even the brass pin.
Fritz
Vienna was not BRD in those days, but Republic of Austria. In those days, the laws did not apply to Austria, but were later introduced a few years ago. As for the Steinhauer & Lück production, this was illegal, and can only have been carried out secretly. The production or wearing or public display of any such decorations in Germany after 1945 was absolutely forbidden.
Kenny Andrew
Yes I agree Fritz, it was illegal, and only carried out secretly, that's why people like them, a touch of the Odessa File.
Fritz
Steinhauer & Luck is one of the main producers for the regalia of the "BRD". Have you seen some of the latest "Bundeswehr" medals - with bars for all the campaigns with their American sounding names? "Einsatzmedaille der Bundeswehr" with KFOR, ENDURING... or whatever. Pathetic! Is not the word... I detest this sort of thing - together with the uniform looks like a doorman or janitor gone wrong!
