Fake Black Wounds Badges

I agree Fritz, the ribbons are not very attractive, I was in the US Air Force for some time, our blue uniform is now an airline attendant looking version. Everyone hates it.

Hi, I am new to the group and have been collecting a little here and there for a few years now. I picked up this wound badge at the Tulsa Gun Show a few years ago, and was interested in an opinion as to its authenticity. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Alain, welcome to the forum. Could you post your images as jpegs as windows has problems loading the new HEIC images. I think you can change the setting on your phone but may need to take the photos again as jpegs. We had this problem last week too when our iphone 11 pro started taking photos as HEIC images. If you google your type of phone and HEIC you should be able to find out how to do it. I did manage to open the first photo with HEIC software but the second one is showing as corrupted. Or you could try adding the second photo again and I can try to open it with my software.

Thanks  Allain, from the photos it looks like an original example.

Wasn't quite sure myself, hard to tell from photos sometimes.

Does anyone have tips on how to tell? I have looked at some of the other examples with the background stippling not in straight lines and such. This one is magnetic. What should I be looking for when it comes to the pin on the back? Makers marks? I have heard the fakes are getting better and better.

Not all badges have maker marks, however when they do, it makes it easier to check the specific design characteristics of that maker, that's the easiest way to tell. When the badge has no maker it does make it harder, however whilst your one is not really a "one looker" it does look OK to me unless it's a new fake which I'm not aware of. As Fritz says it's sometimes hard to make a call from a photo, holding the badge in hand would be much easier, but I think it is OK.

Here's my fake. No drama as it was only £15. Now I know why.

And "The BOYS fROM Brazil", Kenny. Gee great stories guys. I would have fallen for the wound badge to, but yes the wavey dots & the stubby looking swastika are a give away, nice to have hind sight. Tops. Cheers Wolf.

Thank  you! Yes I’m going to buy a decent silver one but I found this quite cheap (20$) although pin is broken. I guess I can find a similar iron part to fix. Well I hope.

It's a common medal I would wait and buy a better one

The problem is I am just starting collect and I’m thinking to start with something cheap but all the other wound badges I found online (in Russia) turns out to be fake. I found some original in online shop in Russia but it was more than 3x more expensive than this one(and not in better condition by paint work).

In the website that I found 2nd degree silver one is 83.5 $ and the black one is 70$. Since there is no big difference between prices I decided to buy the silver one. And I thought that black one with broken pin would be like an extra (it is from someone else). 20$ and 70$ is a huge difference.

Hi. I recently bought small group of ww2 German medals from the family, but I have my reservations.  I sure hope to get educated opinion.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex, I'm afraid these are copies, the Spanish cross was not enameled or screw backed not official issues anyway, but other than that the quality is just not there.

Hello AlexR, hopefully you did not spend too much on those. It really does pay off to do your research, you can always ask the forum members before purchasing.
