LACKIE14
Do third reich helmet liners have sweat holes in the liner at the front or is this only a later West german adaptation? Having a discussion with a friend and want to put him out his misery as he says he's found "a minter" Would be grateful for any replies.
Kenny Andrew
Hi Alex, If you are referring to the sweatholes to the front area of a combat helmet then this is indeed post war West German , however if it is a Fire Police helmet then these have the civic style liner and I have seen these with sweatholes to the front. So your friends helmet could be OK

Kenny Andrew
Hi Alex, yes the sweatholes to the front can be correct, usually they are smaller than the ones seen on the West German liners , however that still does not mean that the helmet has still not been messed with.
Fritz
As to the question of sweat holes in the front of a liner, I have never seen these in a combat helmet, only on postwar firebrigade helmets, these being a lightweight pattern and not suitable as a shrapnel helmet. Hoever, I have a Third Reich Police Tschako, which does have these very fine patterned holes in front of liner.
