leon21
Blyth battery coastal defence complex built in 1916 is still intact today, with its WW1 Observation post with its revolving metal range finder turret which may be the last of its kind in the world, the front of the ( B.O.P. ) was buried up to the height of the blocked up window in the centre face of photo 4. The lower room was used by the battery commander as a control room, the twin defence gun emplacements were adapted slightly after WW2 by the council for recreational use. the twin searchlight emplacements are still intact minus the front steel folding doors which are now concrete and the power house behind is still there. The armoury behind and below the gun emplacements now house's the main museum. A second Observation post was built in WW2.
