Greg
a rather amusing story recently in Australia that only demonstrates that Aussies cannot read script http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/australia/7875150/Bayonet-bearing-Charles-de-Gaulles-name-handed-in-to-Australian-police.html
Kenny Andrew
That's hilarious , only 100 years out, I wonder if the people of France will want to buy it .......for thirty quid , at least they didn't destroy it.

Fritz
Arms amnesty? Very strange. Certainly antique. It is a French M.1874 Gras Bayonet. The inscription should be: Mfre.(Manufacture) d'Armes de Tulle, etc. and nothing to do with Madame de Gaulle. As someone mentioned, they cannot read script, it is amazing. Modern people often cannot read my handwriting, and in the old days I learned "copper plate script" at school, also the German script from my father, who was keen on it. Luckily, I type most of my messages.
