leon21
I was watching the programme FLOG-IT the other day when a guy brought in a box containing a sextant. Turns out It belonged to Lt Commander John Bowman-Manifold Navigating Officer of HMS EXETER, who was killed in action at the Battle of the River Plate on 13th DEC 1939 when a shell hit the Bridge of Exeter his body was found slumped across his compass. Anybody who's watched the Film will know what a pounding the ship took. the sextant survived the battle ironically it was made in Hamburg, It sold for £500.
