regiment739
Well this is a buckle that has caused some debate over the years, It is a SS buckle marked GZM M1/131 maker unknown. It was believed to be a fake, however a Russian friend of mine has actually ground dug one of these himself out of the ground. Most of these ground dug buckles are found around Danzig (Gdansk) It is thought that these were made for the Heimwehr SS Danzig. There is no proof of this as of yet but I am a firm believer that these buckles are indeed original. This example has been denazified and the buckle was rusted onto the belt (which has now come apart) even so a very hard buckle to come across, even in this condition as most of these buckles that are around have been ground dug
Kenny Andrew
The GZM is certainly unusual , I had a really nice HJ knife and the code on it was RZ/49/1939 instead of R7/49/1939 ,The R7 being the RZM code for daggers, why it had RZ on it I have no idea but it certainly looked original to me.It is one of these things that are difficult to prove,I'm sure allot of items get condemned as fake which are in fact original.
regiment739
True Kenny, these were only recently given the thumbs up as genuine, I made my own mind when my friend ground dug one, no documentary evidence but you cannot dismiss fact like that
Kenny Andrew
Yes after 70 odd years I'm sure there are allot of items which are original but have no documentary evidence.I got an Adolf Hitler 1933 party badge from a very good source yesterday but because many think they are not original I have put it in the replica cabinet. The reason people think they are not original is because the RZM system was not really used until 1934,but this was a badge to commemorate Hitlers election in 1933 so it would have been made after 1933,that's like saying all Iron crosses were made in 1939.
