This was the 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin, 1987. The concert took place on the steps of the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt between the French Cathedral (Französischer Dom) and the German Cathedral in Berlin (East) Splendid music by a splendid military band in a splendid setting!

  9. A nostalgical view of the Petersburger Straße in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The former name was Bersarinstraße, named after the first Soviet Military Commander of Berlin, it was re-changed after 1990.   19. A re-cast bronze copy of the bust of Friedrich II in East Berlin's Volkspark Friedrichshain, whose original dated from 1848, was restored to it's former place of standing in the year 2000. The original had disappeared at the end of WW2. The copy was then stolen in 2014, only the stone column remaining. This is only one of several objects, which have been stolen by metal thieves.   20. As expected, got a nice Christmas gift from my wife's family, an East German Army Schützenschnur in Silver. The Schützenschnur is nothing new, it went back to Imperial Germany and was awarded for marksmanship. It also is one of the few awards US servicemen may wear, but not officers. To qualify you must use your primary and heavy weapon both and the lowest awarded weapon proficiency marks the award. Silver is the middle award of bronze, silver and gold and there are further awards as acorns for continued proficiency. There are also versions for armour and other branches. There was also a West German version and after reunification it again continued as a German Bundeswehr award.
