Have a striking similarity to the German versions.

Here's an unusual pill box I  spotted recently outside cottages at Home Farm part of Beamish Living Museum complex.

It was used by the Home Guard  near Durham during WW2, and was made out of half of an egg-ended steam boiler, the

Farm is set in the 1940s and everything inside and out is of the period including this car in one of the barns.

I doubt if this pillbox would even stand up to bullet or shrapnel fire, as not armoured steel. Illusion of safety.

Called in at Cayton Bay Beach a few weeks ago while on the Yorkshire Coast, not been there for 5 years, I was surprised at the state

of some of the pillbox's  I've seen before.

below  photo's taken by a local newspaper, this pillbox had to be made safe after safety fears, it had started to break down leaving a

large piece of stone in a precarious position. The Borough Council had the section of stone removed in August 2020.
