Just got a box of 1930s era German toy soldiers... well think they are 1930s era as some have swastikas. Metal looks like lead or similar... sadly all are damaged and bent from being kept in a small box and sat on it looks like... wondering if it is worth repairing them or if it even can be done?

I would leave them as they are Greg, if you tried to repair them they would probably break , can you post a picture of one of the ones with swastikas? I've had these in the shop before but was never too sure what they were.

Some photos... they are without a doubt German - that is where they come from. The box is a mixed bunch... WW1 soliders, hunters, 2 buffalo and these Hitler Youth????

Nah, Germany loves Cowboys and Indians.... They probably come from a set associated with Karl May novels. May was a massive hit as an author of American Wild West Novels at turn of the century, though he never visited the American West! I've been to his museum and he was also a prolific collector.

Karl May

Karl May, born 1842 in Ernsttal, died 1912 in Radebeul/Saxony, was a very well self-educated author, who started off in a very small and even dubious way, and later became renowned for his works, which were later translated into many languages and read worldwide. Of special interest are his works on the North American Indians, also the African Colonies and the Arabs in the middle East. They are always set with a strong accentuation on adventure as a whole. It is amazing, how he had such knowledge and insight, because he never travelled outside of Germany

His most famous work is probably Winnetou.

A detailed biography can be found under Wikipedia etc.
