Spike Posted January 15, 2016 Share Posted January 15, 2016 German shell case, possibly cut down This solid drawn brass shell case may have been cut down. An outer rim has been soldered to its mouth. It is still a lump, weighing 15.8kgs. It has a threaded primer pocket with one vent to the case. The headstamp is visible, sketch attached not to scale. The German eagle mark photograph has been enlarged. It's actual size is only 10mm tall. Dimensions are as follows - tape measure accuracy: Length 668mm Diameter of head rim 245mm Internal diameter at mouth 216mm Any information as to the manufacturer and weapon this case was made for would be welcome. I have Ian Hogg's German Artillery of World War Two but don't find a match. Perhaps this case was for a naval gun? 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Spike Posted January 19, 2016 Author Share Posted January 19, 2016 Many thanks Kenny. This shell case was bought many years ago in Lymington, Hampshire, a very nautical part of the country. It was bought as a stick and umbrella stand but due to a rebellious wife has seen service in the garage as mouse proof storage for bird food. Said wife has mellowed and it is now back in the house awaiting cleaning. I had stopped collecting for a while. My son not being interested I had no one to pass collectibles on to and I thought you can't take them with you. However, at an antiques fair I was told I should change my tailor, to one who can put pockets in a shroud!
