Here's some pictures of the DRG 05 class streamlined steam locomotives only two were built 001 and 002.

002 engine set the world record speed for steam locomotives after reaching 124-5mph on the Berlin to

Hamburg line on 11th May 1936.

This record was broken two years later by the British LNER A4 class 4468 Mallard engine. Only 001 was

preserverd in the Verkehrsmuseum Nurnburg were it can be seen in its original red livery.

Borsig in Berlin built a one-off streamlined cab forward 05-003 in 1937, with further development being stopped

by WW2. In 1944 the streamlining was removed but had by then already lost its cab forward layout. After the war

it pulled express trains in West Germany until 1958, it was scrapped in 1960.post-3823-0-80405700-1372177439_thumb.jpgpost-3823-0-50628900-1372177469_thumb.jpg

This time the photo's are of the DRG. Class E19-01, built by AEG and presented in 1938 and was placed in regular service

after successful test runs. The locomotives had the elegant red paint scheme that identified express locomotives and the

emblem of that time for the Reichsbahn was present on the ends of the locomotives.

Two of these locomotives can still be seen today, Road No E19-01 in the Berlin Technology Museum and Road No E19-12

in the Nurnberg Transportation Museum.

Extremely interesting. I'd love to have more Reichsbahn items, just possessing a couple of arm eagles. I can recommend a very good book, 472 pages, packed with photos, rather heavy, again, German text should be no hindrance:

Die Deutsche Reichsbahn 1939-1945 - Zwischen Ostfront und Atlantikwall (subtitle) by Andreas Knipping & Reinhard Schulz, Weltbild Verlag Augsburg, 2006

I got mine about 2011, they were on offer, quite cheap!

Also shows the work and operations of the "Reichsbahner" and security on the fronts and occupied territories, partisan activity and destruction and sabotage on the one hand and repair and maintenance on the other, plus personnel losses through terrorism.

A couple of pics. One's not quite a railway station platform but it has SS RSO's on it. The other is obvious. Stewy
