sommewalker Posted April 7, 2015 Share Posted April 7, 2015 I purchased a ww1 German 77mm shell case on Monday at the Good-wood antiques and collectors fair on Monday , an explanation of the markings on this German 77mm shell casePOLTE MAGDEBURG = the cartridge manufacturerThe number 14 refers to the batch number in which that shell came from,Sp252 =Control/inspection mark for Patronenfabrik Polte MagdeburgAUG 1916= The month and year of manufacture...And marked on the primer,F r i e d Krupp A.G = Friedrich Krupp AG, was the largest company in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century,it just goes to show how much information can be gleanedfrom the markings on an old shell.................. 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
