little known about side of the R N D interned in Holland ,
" THE H M S TIMBERTOWN"
" FOLLIES "
during their internment they turned their hands to a lot of different things,
to keep them occupied, ...
The boxes and frames you've heard of,
but the "timbertown follies , were a group ,
that put on shows from opera" the Mikado"
and other productions
as these pictures show,

they were very well received by the internees and the local Dutch population,

A book (in Dutch) about HMS Timbertown was published in March 2014, not just focusing on the Timbertown Follies but all aspects of the English Camp in Groningen. A website has been in existence for over a decade (Internment of British sailor/soldiers of the Royal Naval Division in Groningen during the First World War) and there is also a Facebook page.

yes you are right,

but?

you have missed the earlier posts I did on the R N D that were interned in Holland , all 1500 of them,

I know about the book , as menno welinga the person that wrote the book ,

left me 2 signed copies to pay for and pick up when my Dutch friend and I visited the exhibition in Groningen last year,

also you didn't mention that the book has a section near the front ,

that is in English, but they hope to bring out an English version when they can find an English publisher,

I know of the facebook page as I know the owner

https://www.facebook.com/groups/567576546602807/?ref=bookmarks,

this is the group I started 3 years ago on the RND

you should give that a look too,

you will also find a photo of the lads during morning exercise going over a bridge in the town,

and one of me 100 years later in 2014 in the same spot,

and a view of a case of pieces to do with the RND IN TIMBERTOWN
