Greg
I'm in the process of moving so all my references are packed away but once unpacked I'll have a look at them for the date for you. Scabbard looks like a new repro.
leon21
Thanks Greg, yes I thought the scabbard was'nt right. I do have a E.U.Horster scabbard off my other K98 bayonet, the numbers won't match but it will be the same maker. Did the frog look ok to you?
Greg
my problems with the scabbard are the square throat on the top and the frog hook, both seem a bit off but I could be wrong, many types of these. The frog is almost certainly a repro I would think. The leather is exceptional for something so old but from the photos the rivets are far too shiny and new looking. Again will look into it but will take about 2 weeks till I am unpacked again.
Kenny Andrew
At first glance it looks OK to me , unless there are new repro's which I am not aware of, which is possible.Best to let Greg double check. The frog does look a little new and rough for an early one.
leon21
Recently picked up this Dress Bayonet, has Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen and the Knights head Logo, anybody know when they changed to just WKC and the Knights head Logo. The scabbard has been repainted at some stage and the frog is repro but good quality leather.
Kenny Andrew
Hi Colin, since I stopped selling edged weapons I sold all my reference books but from memory on daggers anyway I think early to late WK&C with kings head and Knights helmet Knights helmet only Knights helmet and WKC Solingen Knights Helmet with Waffen fabric Solingen. Only bayonets carried the full Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen maker stamp but if it ties in with the dagger maker marks then you have a later maker mark although not sure of the exact date.I've kind of lost touch with edged weapons, maybe others can help?
Greg
I've been trying to look this up in my references but not much time to do it. From memory the full stamp of the maker was more on WWI Dress Bayonets and moving to the knights head by WW2. Unfortuntely the dress bayonets are not as well documented as the combat bayonets. I've got a few other books to check when I have a chance but my quick reference items didn't have this - I've seen it somewhere just need to remember where!
