Here's the sad story of Sgt John Hogan of 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment awarded the VC Medal for extreme gallantry

at Flanders in 1914, ( and the missing medal ).

Mick Lally who was with Hogan when he won his VC, was walking through Piccadilly in Manchester some years after the war,

he stopped and spoke to John Hogan who was stood on a street corner selling matches from a tray, with a sign saying ex-soldier

no pension, he gave him 2 shillings and then realised who he was.

Here's an old newspaper article about his missing medal and a photo of his grave which is near one of my relatives grave.post-3823-0-46969000-1411157416_thumb.jpgpost-3823-0-36095700-1411157431_thumb.jpg
