Hi,

New on here. Recently got these medals....

Now, from what I know, they are a WW2 EK1 and WW1 EK2. The EK2 has the wrong ribbon but it is 3 piece with a magnetic core. It has a KO stamped on the ring.

The EK1 is also 3 piece with an magnetic core but is obviously missing the pin at the back.

I don't normally buy German medals but these were part of an auction job lot.

Can anyone tell me anything more about them? Is there anything else I can check to make sure they are genuine? Do they have any value?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

K.O. could be the maker Kerbach & Osterhelt of Dresden. Kenny might know better.

Hi Sydney,

welcome to the forum  KO is the maker Königliches Münzamt Orden of Berlin, both were awarded for acts of bravery and from the photos appear to be genuine. The Imperial one is quite common we would sell for around £40-£45 with the correct ribbon, pity about the missing pin on the EK1, these would normally sell for around £150 but without the pin you are more looking at a value of between £50 to £80.

Hope this helps

Thanks Guys!

I normally only collect British medals but I may change now B) What strikes me is the beautiful construction and quality of the medals - so much better than the British equivalents.

I've ordered the correct ribbon off ebay for the EK2 and they will both be added to a subsection (that may grow) of my current collection.

I assume that it is not worth, and perhaps not correct, to restore the EK1. I like to leave things as found if at all possible anyway.

Welcome to the forum!

I would recommend not restoring it, better value appreciates without it being touched. Leaves a good old look and history to it too.

I too like the German medals, far nicer than Allied items. Part of the robustness is certain medals were worn into battle and not just on parade.
