However, fierce resistance under General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck continued till after the Armistice in November 1918: The statue has been recently dismantled and placed elsewhere, where it cannot be pubicly seen

Fritz
The Namibian Government now wants Germany to remove all memorials of the colonial past - these should be taken back to Germany. Most people in present day Germany would also not appreciate them. Perhaps some museum might like to take them over? 2

A farmer riding a steer. The Germans had established themselves in Southwest Africa since 1883. The more settlers that came, the more the struggle for agricultural land progressed Herero chief Bandju, 1895. The Germans bought land from the Herero chieftains for paltry sums. Larger parcels of land were obtained by fraud and forcing the natives into debt bondage. Herero Chief Kambazembi mit Angehörigen (etwa 1895): Sometimes natives were arbitrarly shot. The Germans though of black women as fair game. Then the Hereros decided to rebel. Native blacks who resisted their oppression, did not fit into the world view of the colonists. Herero captives (1904): The Hereros largely lost their rights, their land went increasingly into the hands of the Germans. Their livelihood vanished, their anger grew. On 12. January 1904 the revolt against their German colonial masters begann. A lithography shows the attack of the Hereros on a column of the Schutztruppe. In January 1904 most colonists were quickly driven out of their farms and many offices of the German Colonial Administration were destroyed. Before the Battle of Waterberg: The 2. Marine-Feldkompanie was to march into the battle against the Herero uprising as shown by this photo in 1904. In the aftermath of the Battle of Waterberg and the ensuing expulsion into the Omaheke Desert about two thirds of the Herero population died. He beat down the Herero rebellion - "he wanted their entire destruction", former officer Ludwig von Estorff claimed. Grausame Deutsche: 1904, prisoners hung for espionage it was claimed. For Generalleutnant von Trotha all was legitimate to subdue the Hereros. He proclaimed early in 1904, "All Herero with or without a weapon, with or without cattle, will be shot. I will take on no more women and children, drive them back to their people or shoot them". Black workers collect water for their animals at the oasis of Awasab in the centre of the land. Fritz
Elo Wilhelm Sambo - Ein Patenkind des Kaisers - Eisenbahn-Regiment 1 Leib-Garde-Husaren-Regiment Potsdam Frontsoldat, Westfront, Palästina 1914-18 Reiter-Regiment 4, Potsdam, 1919-1923 Er hatte einen erstaunlichen Lebensweg hinter sich: Geboren wurde Elo Wilhelm Sambo am 1. April 1885 in Yaoundé (deutsch: Jaunde) in Kamerun. Juli 1933 in Köln.
