leon21
Here's a interesting post card stamp dated 6th April 1915, to a private R. Kerr of 7th Battalion K.O.S.B. (Kings Own Scottish Borderers) Transport Section based at Winchester, from a cousin of his.
leon21
It's interesting that the village of Cambusbarron in Stirling is mentioned as this was the training grounds of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers during WW1, In the fields behind the Hayford Mill a former wool spinning mill and tweed manufacturer the mill closed in 1896 and remained unchanged until the K.O.S.B used it as a training base. The mill is still there today and has been turned into residential flats. Here's a photo of Hayford Mill c WW1
Greg
a quick look at pastmap records (all historic and arecheology records online for scotland plotted on a map) and the mill was used in WW1 for training of the KOSB and also in use during WWII though vague for what military purpose. It was in use a sa civil defense store after the war. Appears there are also two pillboxes on site. I would assume WWII or post war.
