Hunting Hitler? Hitler was not the sort of man to allow his enemies the satisfaction of hunting him. His last wish after openly admitting that the war was lost, was to remain in Berlin, and to, as he put it, put a bullet through his head. Most important was to avoid the disgrace of being captured, even if the war were lost. Hitler’s testament was drawn up just less than 48 jours before his death. Eva Braun had driven in to Berlin at great personal risk when it was almost too late and the Russians were closing in. Munich had already fallen and been taken by the Americans on the 20th April, Hitlers birthday. Shortly before Hitler’s Testament was drawn up by his secretary, Traudl Junge, Göring, on Hitlers orders, had been relieved of all his Command and offices, and had since escaped from his arrest and had surrendered to the Americans, in the illusion that he could negotiate a fair surrender and then remain as Head of State in a new Germany. Hitler had understood this as treason and had ordered his arrest. Hitler had no illusions as to a future in postwar Germany, and so decided on the fate of every commander, who loses a war, as in ancient Greece or Rome. Hitler and Eva Braun then took their own lives in his private room in the chancellory bunker on early afternoon of 30th April 1945, the Russians were within a short distance. Hitlers Adjutant, Otto Günsche had the awesome task of making sure that the bodies were burnt, before they fell into Russian hands. This was carried out and has been confirmed by many witnesses including a postwar statement by Günsche in 1955, after his release by the Russians. This is also confirmed by Linge and Kempke, close members of Hitlers entourage, and by the autobiography of Rochus Misch, who was present in the Bunker till the very end. The Russians found the remains, which had been interred in a shellhole in the chancellery gardens two days later. The remains were packed into two large wooden crates and brought in absolute secrecy to the hospital of Klinikum Buch, about 25km North of Berlin, where they were postmortem examined by Soviet specialists. They were then buried in the hospital grounds. Together with these remains were the bodies of the Goebels family, and Generals Burgdorf and Krebs, who had also committed suicide. Shortly after that, the Soviet unit reponsible for this task and under great secrecy, moved to Rathenow, Southwest of Berlin and the remains were then reburied there. After several further moves, the remains were finally transferred to the Artilleriekaserne in Magdeburg-Westende and buried under the floor of a hut on this site. Finally in March 1970 the Soviet government under Andropov decided that after 25 years, the remanis should finally be disposed of. In great secrecy during the night, the remains were unearthed and brought by trucks to the edge of the River Elbe, and there were piled up with wood and coal and set ablaze. The remains were then finally brought to a small area nearby called Biederitz and thrown into a small river under a bridge known as the “Schweinebrücke”. Thus to this day, nothing remains. This was kept secret until after the fall of the Iron Curtain and collapse of the Soviet Union after 1990. Stalin had never allowed any news leak to the West and had been of the opinion that the West should be in belief that Hitler still was living. So much for postwar speculation as to the fate of Hitler.

I keep an open mind about this but why do the Russians now say they have Hitler's skull and it is kept with part of his jawbone in the Moscow state archive. They also let an American scientist examine it, he was of the opinion that the skull actually belonged to a female. Here is the only clip of the documentary I could find but the actual documentary shows the skull in the Moscow state archive and DNA seems to indicate it to be female.

Yes because what Americans say can always be trusted!

And I say that as one!

Stalins point was keeping the West in the belief that Hitler could still be alive, the Russians have always been secretive and Stalin even more. It was method. At the same time, Stalin also expressed his doubts within certain circles. The article in question is only a fragment of a skull, the Schädeldecke, which also has an exit hole in the rear. The DNA could well indicate a female. The fragment was discovered much later after Hitler and Eva Brauns bodies had already been removed. Both were in a charred condition. However, the dental bridge with gold inlays removed from Hitler were definitely identified by dental records and also by the dentist who treated Hitler, and he was intrerogated by the Russians, as were most other eye withness.

The Russians also have at least two tunics and caps of Hitler, which were found amongst his personal effects in the bunker. Otto Günsche had the responsibility of burning Hitlers private archive and of disposing of the uniforms. The uniforms he left in one of the bunker rooms, which he stated in the invterview in 1955 in the West, all of these facts have since been revealed and published or shown in the TV media. The skull fragment in question, could for example, have been from Eva Braun. And although she took poison, the body lay for a few days in the grounds of the Chancellory Garden (interred), which was constantly under shellfire and fire of all kinds, so it could have well been a stray bullet or a shrapnel fragment which damaged the skull. These items seem to be all that remain, as the bodies were finally destroyed in Magdeburg in 1970. Hitler did certainly not survive the siege of Berlin. Apart from that, he had the Parkinson disease, which in the end is fatal anyway. Hitler was a very sick man at that time, there is no way he could have survived much longer anyway. A great disappointment for his enemies.

Further note: After they were discovered by the Soviets, all the bodies were brought to Klinikum Buch, northeast of Berlin, where they were examined and witnesses testified that these were the bodies of the said persons. They were afterwards moved on to other destinations on the route of the Soviet Army Corps responsible, each time they were buried at the place where the Soviet Corps made a halt. A further destination was Rathenow, and the final destination was Magdeburg-Westend, on the grounds of a former artillery barracks, under a wooden barrack building, where they remained buried till 1970. On a secret order of Juri Andropow, the KGB chief at the time, the bodies were finally disposed of, without any further trace, this was at Biederitz, at the so-called "Schweinebrücke". All witnesses were sworn to utmost secrecy.

Stalin's policy had been, to leave the western Allies in the belief that Hitler could still be living and in hiding.

Anybody been watching series 2 of Hunting Hitler? I was quite surprised they had enough material for a second series , but in fact they do. I've watched the first two episodes and it's pretty amazing stuff, at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they found him.

Here's a clip from Sky news of Gerrard Williams who also appears in the series , the clip is five years old and since then allot of things he says in his book have been backed up in the series.

His bio

Gerrard Williams is an international journalist and historian with an esteemed career spanning over thirty years. His resume includes acting as Duty Editor for Reuters, the BBC and Sky News. Williams’ groundbreaking reporting has taken him to the front lines of the fall of the Soviet Union, the Rwandan Genocide, the 2004 tsunami in Thailand and the US occupation of Iraq, among many other international stories.

Ten years ago, while reporting in Argentina, Williams came across evidence in a local archive that changed the way he looked at historical reporting–Nazi war criminals, potentially including Adolf Hitler, used clandestine international routes to flee defeated Germany for safe haven in Argentina and other South American countries.

Using these archives, eye-witness reports and other local histories, Williams published the book, Grey Wolf: The Escape of Adolf Hitler. Despite the rigor in his journalism and his adherence to facts and evidence, the international community has largely ignored him. Today, with the release of classified FBI and OSS documents, his work is finally getting the credit and respect it deserves.

Williams has taken over a dozen trips to Argentina, and visited locations like Hotel Eden, Bariloche and the Inalco House years before the FBI files pointed them out as potential locations of intrigue. Unlike his previous efforts, which lacked the finances and technology to dig deep enough to truly uncover anything, he believes that this team won’t be held back in the same way. Williams understands how sensitive to discuss and unfathomable to comprehend this subject is, but he stands by his work and welcomes a spirited debated revolving around the newly released facts.

Bob Baer believes Williams is an invaluable asset to the team. Williams has spent over a decade being laser-focused on the facts surrounding this investigation. He has access to a legion of declassified information and buried contemporaneous BBC reports, and knows everything about the Nazi movements, motives and capabilities of their era. As a journalist, his devotion to the facts provides the precise framework that Baer demands to make this investigation the most in-depth and revealing the world has ever seen.

Opionions don't matter. Facts are decisive. This does not match Hitler's character. I have seen American science-fiction nonsense before. It just doen't make sense, just another example of present-day fake news, or entertainment for the masses?

He died in Berlin. Hitler's dentist was captured after the war by the Americans. Two of his dental techs were captured by the Russians. Each independently reconstructed the details of Hitler's dental work from memory. Their reconstructions meshed completely, and they fit with the details of the dental work on the jaw fragments attributed to Hitler AND to the skull X-rays taken of him by his doctor after the July 20 bomb attempt. Bottom line, there is solid forensic proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Hitler died in Berlin. For a detailed account of the forensic exam go to http://www.nl-aid.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Sognnaes.pdf

The dental reports are correct. The x-rays are in American archives in Washington. There is also a certain amount of material in Russian hands. The last eye-witnesses were all for a good ten years in Russian captivity, including Hitlers personal Adjutant, Otto Günsche, being released in 1955. They were all interrogated day and night and tortured. The Russians knew well they were telling the truth, but carried on with their torture, denying everything. It was also kept a very close secret till the fall of the Iron Curtain. There is no doubt whatsoever. See also the autobiography of Rochus Misch, as also other sources, interviews with Hitlers secretary, Traudl Junge, Hitlers personal chamberlain Linge and chauffeur Kempke, and also Göring, Ribbentrop and Speer.

Hi Fush, welcome to the forum that is very interesting, I've never seen the X rays of Hitler's head before. I'm very open minded about the whole thing, and just find the series very interesting. They actually do not say Hitler escaped to Argentina, they only follow up information they have acquired and so far up to episode two anyway they have found no proof he escaped.

Series one was based on now declassified FBI documents and series two adds documents from other intelligence agencies from around the world, MI6, Stasi, Argentinian, Soviet etc. and it's interesting how these documents seem to corroborate each other. Such as the newly discovered tunnel running from the Reich Chancellery through the Tiergarten to the Brandenburg Gate.

I don't know much about it, but do wonder why the information the Soviets have about something as important as Hitler is so sketchy. I'm sure there are answers but why would they separate Hitler's lower jaw from his upper jaw and then put it with a female skull?

The centre of Berlin is honeycombed with tunnels, etc., many of which were built between 1940 and 1945. They were, and still are, accessable from the main underground stations, but are sometimes in danger due to rising ground water.

From an American publication: "Hitler has been frequently sighted on the moon..."   This just goes to prove that the Americans were not the first to stage a moon landing.  After the war, many people grumbled, "DEN hätte man zum Mond schießen sollen..."   Wishfull thinking?

Some of Hitler's original uniforms and other personal items have survived. This particular example, together with the matching peaked cap from the earlier days, up till about 1933/34 were sold for altogether 1.000.000 Pounds or was it Euros?

An example of his last peacetime brown uniform and an example of his late war fieldgrey uniform are held in the state archives in Moskow.

image.png.504a4ef802587c84ce17ec9ecb8a0c1b.png

The cap shows some age, especially to the special brown patent leather peak, the gold bullion has darkened, the cap band is of velvet.

image.png.85a8d46b32a0928d52c64942a0214034.png

Included in the auction were the cap, separately, and the brownshirt (the shirt was actually a blouse or short tunic) with tie, the decorations were not mentioned. Attached to the right pocket is the ribbon of the Blood Order - seldom mentioned in connection with the Führer! In later years he wore no decorations apart from the Iron Cross and Wound Badge. Hitler "hated the SA-Kepi and refused to wear one..."
The uniform was auctioned at Hermann Historica, München to a Lebanese millionär, who claimed that he intended to destroy them, but afterwards announced that he was going to donate them to a Jewish museum in Israel.

Hitler's private testament

image.png.ab6d1f590b193864cbf86cb3c003b27c.png

Mein privates Testament.

April 1945, 4.00 Uhr

Adolf Hitler
