This post is dedicated to the memory of .
private 211 T L DIXON
19TH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY KILLED IN ACTION 29/05/1916,
born in 1888 in Bootle , Liverpool England
to parents joseph & prudence Dixon ,...
of number 13 oxford road Bootle England
he joined the A I F ,Australian imperial forces on the 4th,
of march 1915 aged 271/4 where he joined 19TH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY.BATTALION,
after training etc. he went to Gallipoli on the 12th of august 1915,
where he was wounded at Anzac bay,
he was evacuated to Malta on the 16th of September 1915
where he recovered sufficiently ,
and embarked for England where he was admitted to a hospital,
on the 30th of the 10th 1915,
on the 27th of march 1916 he was a bad lad  and went AWOL for 7 days,
and as a result he was awarded a total of 12 days forfeiture of pay,
and 120 hours of detention,
(I HOPE SHE WAS WORTH IT  )
on the 5th of the march 1916 he disembarked at Alexandria ??

he then joined the B E F in Marseilles on the 25th of march 1916,
They sure travelled a lot , I wonder if he got seasick ???
he was killed In Action the 25th of June 1916 aged 28,
in France and was buried in the brewery orchard cemetery,
bois-grenier
on the 29th of June 1916 the cemetery is 2 1/2 miles,
from Armentieres ,
such a short life ,
i have included a copy of a page from his attestation papers ,
the casualty list for the 3rd of July from,
the Sydney times that shows his entry
a copy of his last will and testament signed,
12th of august 1915
the letter sent to his parents ? and the form/s
detailing his personal effects,
1 metal cigarette case
1 testament
1 diary
and Dice
they were very thorough
i also include an aerial view and a street view ,
of where No 13 Oxford road Bootle one stood ,
as you can see it was demolished an the plot is now a car park ,
with an untidy entrance,
also a photo of the cemetery he is buried in.
if only people there knew of its history,
of where a brave young lad was born and grew up,
left the relative safety of his mother land, to go to the other side of the world,
to enlist in the Australian imperial army,
to fight and get wounded at Gallipoli,
and eventually pay the ultimate price in the fight for freedom,
by giving his life in France,
i wonder what they would say,
we only have his victory medal left of the ones his family received after the war , the rest have disappeared into the mists of time.
I HAVE FAYE TRELFALL to thank for finding and sending me the
details from the Australian archives,
there are 44 pages in total inc the cemetery ones ,
THANK YOU FAYE XX,
i hope this post does the memory of Thomas leathes Dixon ,
justice
